Abstract
This chapter provides a practical overview of the most clinically relevant artifacts present in diffusion MRI data. For each artifact, correction methods are suggested, where a distinction is made between the acquisition stage and the processing stage (including pre-processing and tensor estimation). A step-by-step decision scheme provides advice on how to check and correct for artifacts. Quality assurance in diffusion imaging is discussed, and the implications of bad data quality on further quantitative analysis and fiber tractography are highlighted.
