Abstract
In this paper the phsyiological backgrounds as well as the dangers of clinical application of paired stimulation are discussed. The effect of paired stimulation on the mechanical and electrical activity of the heart can easily be explained by well-known physiological properties of heart muscle. The clinical application of paired stimulation as a therapeutic and diagnostic tool is delayed by the absence of completely reliable stimulators and limited by the fact that this type of stimulation of the heart enhances the G2-consumption of the myocardium.
