Abstract
The relative efficiency in phototaxis and photosynthesis of light absorbed by carotenoids in Rhodospirillum rubrum was determined. Confirming an earlier1 conclusion, the carotenoid activity proved to be less pronounced in phototaxis than in photosynthesis.
A hypothetical explanation of this phenomenon has been put forward.
