Participation in sport: bonding and bridging as identity work

Abstract

Examines the role of sport in building social capital, both bonding (with like groups) and bridging (with unlike groups). Argues sports can contribute to both, but those two categories don't adequately address the complex identities held by individuals engaged in sporting activities
