Abstract

This chapter explores how the Dutch film industry responded to the COVID pandemic and compares this reaction to the measures taken by the industry to respond to the climate crisis. It argues that the swift changes in the wake of the global health crisis show a path forward for more sustainable film production. This chapter is based on two research projects on green filmmaking in the Netherlands that were conducted in 2019 and 2021/2022, and draws six important lessons about money, training, labor conditions, and time pressure, each of which can inform transitional steps.
