Crisping up Lactobacillus vaginal live biotherapeutics

Abstract

Bacterial vaginosis remains prevalent and often refractory or recurrent. In this issue, Bloom et al. and Potloane et al. report clinical trial results evaluating three vaginal live biotherapeutic products containing different Lactobacillus crispatus strain combinations. Although the colonization findings are encouraging, optimization of doses, formulations, and treatment schedules is necessary.
