Glossary Assimilation in the housing market The process of declining differences between ethnic groups in terms of quality of dwellings, quality of neighbourhoods, and access to homeownership. Constraints Barriers on the housing market which are beyond the control of individual households and which restrict their housing options (e.g., housing allocation or discrimination). Ethnic group A segment of a larger society whose members are thought, by themselves or others, to share a common origin and a common culture. Locational attainment The degree to which individual and household characteristics (like ethnic background and household income) are related to access to desirable neighbourhoods. Resources Tools that households use to realise their housing and neighbourhood preferences (e.g., financial or cognitive resources).
