Abstract
Triple angular correlation measurements have been performed at eight resonances in the reaction 35Cl(p, γ)36Ar, with protons in the energy range Ep = 733–2595 keV. A number of multiple cascades, from the decay of high-spin levels, has been investigated. Appropriate methods of analysis of triple correlation measurements are discussed. Polarization measurements have been performed at three of the resonances. The main results are the spin and parity determinations of the following 36Ar levels:
The 4.34 and 5.21 MeV levels are suggested to have Jπ = 0+.
In addition a number of multipole mixing ratios for proton capture and gamma-ray emission have been determined. Isospin selection rules appear to work effectively inthis nucleus. This results in the emission of E2 and E3 radiation in several cases. The main configurations of several levels in 36Ar and some levels in 35Cl, excited by proton emission from the capture state, are discussed.
