What demands working in times of uncertainty and rapid change for professionals and how can they continue their development? We outlined how required flexibility and adaptability of professionals asks for the development of adaptive expertise. Adaptive expertise is linked to professionals’ domain knowledge that provides the basis for flexibility and creativity. The current challenges in many work situations force to learn from incidents that contribute to the development of adaptive expertise. This is mainly about gaining frequent experience with complex situations and searching for theory, feedback and reflection to learn from.
