Abstract
From October 2001 students at Amsterdam University in the Netherlands have access to the university's new Digital Library system which includes thousands of online databases, electronic journals and academic websites. However, a proxy-server and specially-written software prevent unrestricted access to the internet enabling the library to control access to the system and prevent unwanted software amendments. The system provides a detailed overview of use of individual workstations, although individual users cannot be identified.
