Abstract

SAMENVATTING Dit hoofdstuk begint met een theoretische beschouwing over taboeworden. Vervolgens behandelt het de taboewoorden die aanwezig zijn in een corpus bestaande uit de thriller Falange armata van Carlo Lucarelli. De voornaamste plaats is gereserveerd voor het woord cazzo, waarvan de dertien gebruiks-situaties en de omgeving waar het gebruikt wordt worden beschreven. Het onderzoek heeft ook een diachrone kant, waarbij een half serieuze suggestie wordt gedaan om het woord af te leiden van de eigennaam Caius. RIASSUNTO Questo capitolo comincia con una discussione teorica sulle parolacce. Poi tratta le parolacce presenti in un corpus costituito dal giallo Falange armata di Carlo Lucarelli. La principale parola studiata è cazzo, di cui si descrivono i tredici usi tipici e l’ambiente in cui viene usata. La ricerca ha anche un lato diacronico, in cui si fa un suggerimento semiserio di derivare la parola dal nome proprio Caius. SUMMARY This chapter starts with a theoretical discussion about profanity. Then it discusses the strong words found in a corpus consisting of the thriller Falange armata by Carlo Lucarelli. The principal word studied is the taboo word cazzo, of which the thirteen typical uses and the environment in which it is used are described. This study also has a diachronic side, in which it is suggested half in jest that the origin might be the Latin first name Caius.
