Abstract
This book (in Spanish) reports on a series of reflections from academics, politicians and civil society activists on the meaning and impact of human rights in a society in conflict. These symposia were held in September 2001. After an introduction to the whole project by Alejandro Angulo Novoa, Director of the research institute CINEP, and an article by Professor Jorge Iván González on the process of constructing legality, it provides full accounts of three ‘conversatorios’. Each of these starts with an introduction by Bas de Gaay Fortman, which is followed by substantial responses from an informed audience, and culminating in a dialogue on the many dilemmas faced by Colombia in the new century. The first cónversatorio (in Bogotá) discusses “Development and human rights”, the second one (also in Bogotá) “Law and economic, social and cultural rights in the Colombian reality”, and the third symposium (in Barrancabermeja) “Human rights in the outlying regions”.
