Abstract
This chapter introduces the central topic of the book, the frontline delivery of welfare-to-work or activation policies. It presents the analytical model that the book uses for analysing frontline practices, that is, a model that pays attention to the way in which these practices are structured by policy, governance, organizational and occupational contexts. Finally, the chapter discusses the aims of the book and provides an outline of its structure.
