Abstract

Some charactistic results of the experiments on the streaming current are described with the help of graphs. It is shown that in our case the streaming current in metal tubes is supplied by the wall of the tube; glass tubes give comparatively less streaming current. The mean charge density in the liquid is strongly dependent on temperature T, especially if T > 20°C; if the liquid is heated to 60°C its ability to produce charge is lost rapidly. The experimental (Re) and (R,L) curves, describing the dependence of on Reynolds number Re, tube length L and tube radius R, show a clear resemblance to the theoretical curves deduced in I. It is found that wall roughness and entrance disturbance influence strongly. Finally with the obtained results a calculation is made of the components required for a 1 MV 0.1 mA h.t. generator in which the high tension is built up by the streaming current.
