Abstract

Imaging of pediatric patients involves many diverse modalities, including radiography, ultrasound imaging, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and scintigraphic and angiographic studies. It is therefore important to be aware of potential pitfalls that may be related to these modalities due to technical problems or artifacts. Pitfalls can also be related to anatomic reasons such as normal variants or growth. Failure to recognize these pitfalls may result in missed diagnoses, unnecessary investigations and treatment. We aim to deal with pitfalls encountered in frequently encountered clinical conditions, as well as in investigations involving the head and neck, spine, chest, abdomen, and musculoskeletal system, including child abuse.
