Abstract
This article is only available in Dutch. Large-scale chain initiatives cost a great deal of time, money, and commitment from the partners involved. Nonetheless, these large-scale initiatives often underperform or fail completely. Given the complexity and unpredictability of the cooperation and the decision-making process in social chains, chain initiatives can only succeed if they fit sufficiently with the specific characteristics of the field of application. We list a number of aspects that influence the chance of success of a chain initiative. These aspects concern both the chain initiative and to the scope and are presented in a model for promising chain initiatives. This allows us to assess the chance of success of a chain initiative beforehand.
