Perineale groeve: Vroege herkenning leidt tot een juist beleid

Abstract

A perineal groove is a congenital malformation characterized by a wet groove-like erythematous mucosal lesion in the genital area. This study describes 3 cases of perineal groove, who were referred to our tertiary pediatric dermatology outpatient clinic. The diagnosis was initially missed by several physicians. We show an overview of the 34 cases (including our 3 cases), described in the literature. Better recognition of perineal groove may lead to an early diagnosis and adequate management of the disease. Most patients are asymptomatic and therefore treatment is not necessary. Spontaneous resolution seems rare. Therefore if symptomatic early surgical intervention can be considered.
