Abstract

When two quantifiers Q 1 and Q 2 satisfy the scheme Q 1 x Q 2 y φ→Q 2 y Q 1 x φ, we say that Q 1 is scopally dominant over Q 2. This relation is central in analyzing and computing entailment relations between different readings of ambiguous sentences in natural language. This paper reviews the known results on scope dominance and mentions some open problems.
