"Teatro documental, diversidad funcional y humor en Alicias buscan Maravillas, de Lucía Miranda"

Abstract

'Alices Seek Wonders' ['Alicias buscan Maravillas'] (2017, 2021) is a documentary play by Lucía Miranda based on the testimonies of people with and without disabilities. Finding inspiration in Lewis Carroll’s characters, motives, and linguistic play, the playwright and theatre director proposes a site-specific, inclusive, and accessible staging for audiences of all ages. During the performance at park Quinta de Los Molinos in Madrid, the spectators participated in an immersive adventure, interacting, walking along, and even singing and dancing with the performers, made up of actors with and without disabilities, including a group of teenagers from community-based theatre project ‘Mundo Quinta’. Instead of proposing a comical representation of disability, the play uses humour to bridge the gap between diverse communities and encourages the audience to reflect on what normality is.
