Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical relevance of incidental prostatic uptake (IPU) on FDG-PET/CT. We analyzed 108 male bladder cancer patients who underwent FDG-PET/CT imaging, and subsequently a cystoprostatectomy, from 2009–2014. IPU had a poor diagnostic accuracy for detecting prostate cancer. Classification of IPU as ‘suspect’ or ‘non-suspect’ by nuclear medicine physician did not improve diagnostic results. Physicians should therefore be cautious to apply invasive diagnostic methods to detect prostate cancer in case of IPU on FDG-PET/CT.
