Abstract
Gamma-gamma triple angular correlation measurements were performed at eight resonances, and polarization experiments at three resonances of the 39K(þ,γ)40Ca reaction in the proton energy range Ep = 1.1–2.1 MeV. Spins and parities could be determined of the following 40Ca levels (energies in MeV): 3.73 3-, 3.90 2+, 4.48 5-, 5.24 2, 5.27 4+, 5.61 4-, 6.28 3(-), 6.94 (1, 2), 7.29 0, 7.49 2, 9.41 2, 9.61 3+, 9.65 2-, 9.79 3, 9.87 1, 9.96 4+ and 10.33 1.
In addition, a number of gamma-ray multipole mixing ratios in 40Ca were determined.
A shell-model calculation has been made with the surface delta interaction to explain the odd-parity levels.
