Abstract
Over the last decades, our understanding of the underlying etiologic pathophysiological processes and clinical characteristics of aortic dissections have increased. Recognition of certain high-risk features has helped to identify the right subgroups of patients that are eligible for early endovascular aortic repair, to prevent late aorta related events. Nowadays, emerging endovascular management strategies are increasingly focused on the induction of favourable aortic remodelling and the reduction of device-related complications, with the final aim of improving long-term survival. The present chapter will discuss acute aortic dissection and its epidemiology, related acute aortic syndromes, classification systems, and indications for endovascular management strategies and techniques, according to aortic dissection subtype.
