Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop a non-invasive method for determining regional lungvolumes, which could replace bronchospirometry in routine clinical use. It is concluded that transmission experiments can determine the vital capacity of both lungs as a whole as accurately as spirometry and allows the measurement of vital capacity for each lung separately with the same accuracy as bronchospirometry. It is therefore clear that our method provides a new tool for clinical investigation allowing the determination of regional lung volumes.
