Abstract

A factor has been isolated from spinach leaves that interacts with chlorophyll. This interaction is measurable as an increased light sensitivity and fluorescence capacity of the pigment in an aqueous medium. The factor is probably a protein. Interaction was also observed with bacteriochlorophyll and magnesium tetrabenzporphyrin, but not with pheophytin. Preliminary experiments indicate that the factor exhibits some activity in photoreduction and dark re-oxidation of 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol by chloroplast fragments.
