Abstract

This paper discusses the concepts of translocal development, development corridors and development chains, based on the insights obtained in the preceding case studies. As intermediate theoretical concepts they provide a geographical framework for understanding local development in a context of globalisation. The implications for policy include the need to give more attention to the relational dimensions of local development, complementing territorial policies with more focused management of key flows linking localities with other places.
