Abstract
This chapter examines the effects of communication channels on user engagement, acceptance, and satisfaction within a personalized food recommendation system, which provides explanations. We tested two conditions: a tablet web interface and a humanoid robot along with a tablet. Our findings demonstrate that, despite occasional user frustrations with the robot’s slower response time and overall interaction style, the robot’s presence enhances the social perception of the interaction. Overall, the results suggest potential for socially interactive robots.
