Abstract

This chapter will provide an update on the epidemiology of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) as it has developed during the past few years, since the last edition in 2003. We shall review the current epidemiological literature, and discuss diagnosis, frequency, genetic and environmental factors, and the possible interaction between them.
