Investigations on organogermanium compounds XI. Preparation and structure of trialkylgermyl alkali metal compounds in hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPT)

Abstract

In this paper a full report is given of our investigations into the preparation of trialkylgermyl alkali metal compounds. The most satisfactory route to these compounds involves the cleavage of hexaalkyldigermanes with alkali metals in HMPT at room temperature. The structure, thermal stability and basicity of trialkylgermyl alkali metal compounds in HMPT solution are dicussed. Synthetic aspects will be dealt with in subsequent papers.
