"Paired stimulation" van het hart

Abstract

In this paper the physiological backgrounds and the possibilities as weil as the dangers of clinical application of "paired stimulation" are discussed. The effect of paired stimulation on the mechanical and electrical activity of the heart can easily be explained by well-known physiological properties of heart muscle. The clinical application of paired stimulation as a therapeutic and diagnostic tooI is delayed by the absence of completely reliable and versatiIe stimulators and Iimited by the fact that this type of stimulation of the heart enhances the 02-consumption of the myocardium.
