Abstract

For every Russian bank we hand collect information on its regis-tration, license revocation, liquidation, location changes, acquisi-tions, entrance to and exit from the Deposit Insurance System aswell as state and foreign ownership. The data come from varioussources freely available online. Yet, some of these data are hard tofind or require some tedious work to organize. This paper bringsthe information together and makes it publicly available. Com-bined with Russian bankfinancial statements (freely available onBank of Russia's website) this dataset provides ample possibilitiesfor empirical research: on bank failure prediction models; on howacquisitions affect competition; on how bank efficiency varies withownership; on how a particular event, such as acquisition, changeof location or ownership, or acceptance to deposit insurance, affects bank behavior and performance.
