La construcción de un ethos transnacional en la obra de Fernando Iwasaki

Abstract

The present article seeks to shed light on the construction of the authorial identity in Fernando Iwasaki’s fictional works and essays, which can be read as an outright attack against stereotypical constructions of identity. Although the author classifies himself as a “voluntary exile” to whom the notion of national identity sounds anachronistic since it is deemed to have no relevance except to classify typical dresses and folkloric dances, it is noteworthy that his place of enunciation is less deterritorialized than one may think and varies in function of his readership. Throughout his work we can observe an authorial ethos which we will call “transnational”: even though Iwasaki’s discourse is characterized by an overtly anti-nationalist stance, a closer look reveals that the national and local level continue to be relevant.
