Abstract

Abstract To suppress the recording of temperature variations caused by small scale convective air movements from hot paving or car exhausts, an air-temperature is recorded which is the average temperature from four positions on a horizontal line across the front of a car, spaced at 0.5 m intervals at a height of 2 m above the ground. Mean air-temperatures, based on data from 90 traverses through the City of Utrecht in December 1969, January and February 1970, and the influence of a city-square on the horizontal temperature distribution are discussed.
