Abstract

Onderzoek naar het gebruik van instructievideo’s en achtergrondvideo’s in de klas en de manier waarop deze ingezet kunnen worden bij de Grote Rekendag In this research the focus was on the use of video in primary education, and more in depth on the use of video in the context of the Big Mathematics Day. Do teachers use video in their lessons, both ‘instructional video’ and ‘background video’? In reaction to an online questionnaire about half of 57 teachers indicate they are not using instructional video, they are not convinced about the fit between their own instruction and the instruction in the video. Background videos are used for visual and contextual support. Within the Big Mathematics Day instructional videos can have an important role when written instruction becomes complex. Background videos are motivating and give the teacher a quick overview of the total context and narrative. Teachers need freedom to use or skip the videos, to have easy control in the actual classroom situation.
