Abstract
Reinhard Zimmermann and Simon Whittaker, Good Faith in European Contract
Law, pp 720, ISBN 0 521 77190 0, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge 2000.
This is the first publication resulting from the Trento Common Core of European
Private Law project. It analyses the law relating to good faith in the Member States of
the European Union. The Trento project started some seven years ago. The aim of the
project is to analyse to what extent the solutions of cases in various jurisdictions are
the same, similar or different. A recent survey of the background is given by Mauro
Bussani and Ugo Mattei, ‘Le fonds commun du droit européen privé’, Revue internationale
de droit comparé 2000, pp 29-48. See also A.S. Hartkamp, ‘Perspectives for
the Development of a European Civil Law’, Weekblad voor Privaatrecht en Notariaat
(WPNR) 6401 (2000), also published in: Mauro Bussani, Ugo Mattei (eds), Making
European Law/Essays on the ‘Common Core’ project, Università degli Studie di
Trento, 2000, pp 39-60, as well as the Report in this Review, 2000, pp 249-251.
This is the first volume which has been concluded successfully. The authors
may be congratulated with the result. So should the national reporters who, unfortunately,
are not mentioned on the cover or the cover page. The volume encompasses
thirty cases.
