Abstract

In this issue of Developmental Cell , Zhu et al. report that plants maintain a high-humidity niche within their meristematic zones through enclosing organs and regulating the expression of aquaporins. The epidermal hydrodynamics are conserved across land plants, likely facilitating land colonization while enabling adaptation to arid environments.
