De Straten-Generaal van Rotterdam. Naar een stadssociologisch perspectief op jeugdculturen

Abstract

The present study pleads for a revitalisation of the urban sociological theoretical perspective as an alternative for the current dominance of the ethnic perspective in sociology. The development of a relatively new youth culture in Rotterdam - the street culture - is used as a casus to show the relevance and need of this urban sociological perspective. Finally, this study discusses the pedagogical mismatch between a street culture and a school culture and puts forth some fundamental educational dilemmas.
