Abstract
In chapter 28 David Baneke discusses the transformation of astronomy from a Big to a 'mega' science. Astronomy changed from being big, in terms of relying on big telescopes, to being big in terms of involving huge networks on a global scale and producing publications signed by hundreds of authors. He also discusses the legitimization of Big Astronomy through a 'double' narrative that emphasizes either the cultural significance or the instrumental utility of big astronomical projects.
