Abstract
The luminescence decay of the green-yellow emission of PbMoO4 and PbWO4 can be described by the sum of two exponentials. The decay times and the relative intensities of the two components behave similarly in both compounds. This paper is devoted to the elucidation of a descriptive model of the emitting centre(s) which can account for the anomalous temperature dependence of the decay times and the relative intensities of the two components of the emission. We found that the experimental results can be described with two coupled four-level schemes. Apparently, the centres responsible for the green-yellow emission in PbMoO4 and PbWO4 are very much alike.
