Abstract

This PhD Thesis aimed at extending our knowledge on how support materials influence the activity and fragmentation behavior of heterogeneous olefin polymerization catalysts. More specifically, different physical and chemical parameters were investigated of both industrially and more exploratory support materials. For the latter type of support materials, such as LaOCl, 2-D Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Chitosan (CS), were synthesized by different preparation techniques to precisely alter their physicochemical properties. To achieve these research goals, a combination of spectroscopic and microscopic techniques has been developed and successfully utilized to probe the physicochemical properties of the pristine, activated and polymerized catalyst materials.
