Abstract

In order to predict the success of infection control measures in hospitals one needs to understand the underlying dynamics of transmission and/or emergence of bacterial pathogens in the context of health care settings. As these dynamics essentially involve two populations – microorganisms as well as the hosts – different approaches are necessary to unravel their mutual interactions.
