Abstract
With more than 3.7 million new cases and 1.9 million deaths each year among adults and children, cancer represents the second most important cause of death and morbidity in Europe among all age groups. New treatments—from precision medicine to immunotherapy—have translated into improved survival and cure rates: currently, 5-year all-cancer survival has increased to almost 80% in children. Despite this progress, death rates from cancer remain substantial and challenging due to cancer-related and treatment-related complications. This chapter describes the most important emergencies and complications requiring PICU admissions in paediatric cancer patients.
