Interactive media practices of young people : origins, backgrounds, motives and patterns

Abstract

Interactive Media Practices of Young People presents empirical studies on students' relations to interactive media, in view of possible consequences for education. From these studies an image arises of diversity regarding young people's interactive media practices. For educators and schools this diversity implies an awareness of the fact that the interactive media experiences, preferences and identities developed out-of-school should be taken into account in class. In the consideration of this diversity, it is important to address these experiences and preferences with tailor made assignments, or broad learning contexts, regardless of the application of interactive media.
