Complex Trauma and Dissociation in the Face of Ongoing Stress and Trauma: Child Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Abstract

The main goal of this chapter is to address the existing gap in the literature and inspire professionals from diverse disciplines to contribute to advancing our understanding of ongoing complex trauma and dissociation among child refugees and asylum seekers. The chapter will begin by defining displaced groups and what constitutes complex trauma and dissociation in displaced children, emphasizing the impact on their lives. The remainder of this chapter will focus on existing interventions and other models that refugees and other displaced groups are typically offered.
