Abstract

The unpublished correspondence between Rosa Chacel and Vera Makarov, preserved at the Fundación Jorge Guillén, offers a unique window into the intellectual and personal world of two translators in exile. One of the few testimonies of the period, the letters reveal intimate aspects of the daily lives in exile: economic precariousness, the emotional weight of distance and uprooting. More than a mere professional relationship, this epistolary reveals a solid friendship based on mutual admiration and emotional support. These correspondences between exiles and local writers mark the importance of translation as an instrument for forming social networks in the host country.
