Abstract

Socio-Scientific Issues and Socially Acute Questions, as wicked problems, necessitate decision-making and socio-political action taking for resolution. In preparing young citizens to deal with these key societal challenges biology education plays an important role. It should help promote responsible citizenship and scientific literacy by equipping students with the skills to engage with these complex issues and take informed and effective action. To face this stake, we have discussed in a keynote important goals and educational approaches (e.g., Socio-Scientific Inquiry-Based Learning) for biology education. This paper reflects our keynote lecture at ERIDOB 2024.
